We are open with normal hours in Swansea today. Drive carefully when you are coming in!

Office Snow Schedule Today!

We will be seeing patients from 10am-2pm. If you are not comfortable driving in the snow, call and reschedule. Otherwise we will see you today!

National Children’s Dental Health Month

It is February again and Dr. Markarian and Dr. Hood-Olson are going out to visit grade schools to talk to children about taking care of their teeth. On February 5th, Dr. Markarian returned to his home town of Granite City to talk to the kids at Neidringhaus School and his own grade school, Frohardt School. “I was really excited to get to go back to my elementary school! It has been 32 years since I walked the halls of Frohardt School and it somehow seems smaller than I remember,” Dr. Markarian said. “I hope to go back next year and visit them again!”

Thanks to the Granite City School District for letting Dr. Markarian return! More schools coming every week. Is yours one of them?

More Snow Coming?

Well it seems that the weather forecasters are agian predicting the white stuff to fall in our area tonight. We know how accurate they are (remember last Friday?), but they say we could get around 6 inches of snow before morning. As always your safety is the top priority of the office, so if you are not comfortable driving in conditions like that, then just stay home and reschedule. As of now (Monday at 11:30 am) we plan to be open tomorrow. Check back here (or on Facebook or Twitter) for updates!

Winter Weather Updates

I know there are predictions of some possibly significant snowfall Wednesday into Thursday and we will try to keep everyone informed via e-mail, the web site, Facebook or Twitter.  Hopefully it is another storm that passes us by, but if now, we will let you know if we are in the office or not.

Markarian Orthodontics 15th Anniversary!

June 18th will be the 15 year anniversary for Dr. Markarian.  On that fateful day, Dr. Markarian and his receptionist (his wife Annette), and their office entertainer (their 2 year old daughter Grace) embarked on a journey that led to where the office is today….

When I look back over all that has happened during those years and all of the patients that I have watched grow up during treatment, I am proud of what I have done and yet humbled by the experience.  It has given me great joy to be involved in so many patient’s lives and gotten to know many of them very well. In that respect, the mission that the office had on that first day, which was to provide the best orthodontic care and to respect each and every individual during their time in the office, has not changed.  I find that I enjoy what I do mostly because of the interesting and unique interactions that I have with patients, their parents, and my staff.  I would like to thank all of my patients throughout all the years, and for those still come to see us from the early years, it is truly a pleasure to see you.  The office is much different now, more staff, more locations, a second orthodontist, but the spirit is hopefully the same.  Dr. Lauren Hood-Olson has been a wonderful addition to the office and I can tell by people’s reactions that she has been fully accepted as part of the family.  Dr Lauren will help me to carry the practice into the future without losing touch with the past.  The future is bright indeed!  Thanks,

Randall Markarian D.M.D, M.S.

National Children’s Dental Health Month

February was National Children’s Dental Health Month (NCDHM) and Drs. Markarian and Hood-Olson visited several of the local elementary schools to educate 3rd and 4th grade children about the importance of taking care of the teeth.  Along with a very fun and educational presentation, featuring a horse puppet with human teeth that the kids got a chance to brush, Drs. Markarian and Hood-Olson gave the students “goodie bags” filled with all of the things needed to to care for their teeth.  After over 10 years visiting schools, it is still one of the highlights of the year for the doctors and we look forward to to returning next year and hopefully visiting some new schools!

Dr. Markarian appeared on Fox 2 News Morning show!

Dr. Markarian appeared on St Louis Fox 2 News Morning show on Monday September 15th in the 8-9 am hour.  Dr. Markarian talked about the charity, Smiles Change Lives, that he is helping to organize in the greater St. Louis metropolitan area.  Smiles Change Lives provides orthodontic treatments for patients with significant orthodontic needs and with major financial hardship.  The idea is to help improve the individual’s self esteem, giving them the confidence to achieve more in life.  Here is the link to the interview:  Smiles Change Lives interview   If you are interested in finding out more information about getting a child into treatment with Smiles Change Lives, either go to the website from the link above or call them at (888) 900-3554.   Just as important, Smiles Change Lives needs donations to provide the treatment for the children.  It costs about $500 per child to administer the program (all orthodontists are unpaid for their services), and if you would like to support this great cause contact Andrea at Smiles Change Lives.

New Addition to Markarian Orthodontics

We are pleased to announce that Dr. A. Lauren Hood-Olson joined the office on July 21st.  It is  a pleasure to have Dr. Lauren (as she would like to be called) on the staff, and I am sure that you will enjoy working with her too.  When you come in for your next visit, please make a effort to meet her.  Congratulations and welcome, Dr. Lauren!

Dr. Markarian President of St. Clair Dental Society

Dr. Markarian will be serving as the President of the St. Clair Dental Society for the next year.  It is a great honor to serve as the president of the society as many other esteemed dentists in the area have before him (including both of his brothers!).  Good luck Dr. Markarian!
